Tesco offers 8p off fuel at 500+ stations — how the £60 coupon works

Tesco shoppers can get 8p off each litre of fuel after a qualifying £60 in-store shop, but the paper coupon has strict payment and location rules.

Tesco shoppers can get a paper coupon for 8p off each litre of petrol or diesel when they spend at least £60 in store by Monday 31 August.

The coupon can be used at more than 500 participating Tesco petrol stations until Sunday 6 September, according to MoneySavingExpert. You do not need a Clubcard to receive one, but the qualifying shop must be made in a Tesco store rather than online or through Whoosh.

There are two practical catches: the £60 threshold is calculated after discounts, promotions and coupons, and the fuel voucher must be taken to a staffed kiosk. It will not work at Pay at Pump or an unmanned petrol station.

How to get Tesco’s 8p fuel coupon

You need to spend at least £60 in one qualifying in-store transaction between 17 and 31 August. Tesco’s fuel coupon terms say the voucher is issued at the till and a Clubcard is not required.

The minimum spend is based on the amount left after discounts, promotions and coupons have been applied. A basket that starts above £60 may therefore fall below the threshold at the checkout.

Online grocery and Whoosh orders do not qualify. Tesco also excludes spending at its cafés, tobacco kiosks, opticians, phone stores, concessions, Travel Money and Tesco Bank.

Lottery products, e-top ups, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medicines and infant formula do not count towards the £60 either.

How much could 8p off a litre save?

The saving depends on how much fuel you buy. An 8p reduction saves £2.80 on 35 litres, £3.20 on 40 litres, £4 on 50 litres and £4.80 on 60 litres.

Tesco caps the discount at £10 in one transaction. You would need to buy 125 litres to reach that maximum, so most drivers will save considerably less.

The coupon does not automatically make Tesco the cheapest place to fill up. Compare the local pump price after subtracting 8p a litre, particularly if using the voucher would mean travelling farther than usual.

Pay at the kiosk by 6 September

The paper coupon must be presented at the petrol station kiosk and redeemed in the same transaction as the fuel purchase. Only one coupon can be used per transaction.

Coupons cannot be used through Pay at Pump or at unmanned petrol stations. Tesco Express stores selling Esso fuel are also excluded, even if they appear when searching for a nearby Tesco forecourt.

The promotion does not operate in Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man. Drivers can use Tesco’s store locator and select the Petrol Filling Station filter to check nearby facilities before travelling.

The final day to earn a coupon is Monday 31 August. Anyone who already has one has until Sunday 6 September to use it at a participating staffed Tesco filling station.
